Tails Out of School Nature School Update by Holly Hannum Eagle Scout Project Completed at Nature Center The Fair Hill Nature Center is pleased to announce two additions to our Outdoor School. Last May Boy Scout Troop 443, under the leadership of Dan Fallon, a scout working on his Eagle Scout project, constructed an outdoor classroom. Thirty scouts and parents worked for two days building permanent benches in a natural amphitheater next to the barn. They also built steps leading to the classroom from the road. Through Dan's fundraising efforts the project received financial support from American Home and Hardware and the North East Rotary Club. The outdoor classroom is used by summer campers and students attending school programs. In September Daniel and Troop 443 erected an educational bulletin board near the platform at the marsh behind the Nature Center. The scouts conducted research on more than twenty animals that frequent the area. Pictures and information are now displayed on the bulletin board and used by classes and the general public visiting the marsh. Besides local businesses and organizations, Dan's project was supported by a grant from the Chesapeake Bay Trust. The staff of the Nature Center wishes to thank Daniel for all the hard work he put into this project. Congratulations!
Dan's father helps support the roof of the outdoor bulletin board while Dan attaches it to the frame. |
