Pre-Trip Information
1. Arrange ahead of time for one chaperone for each class. For safety concerns, we try to have one instructor and one teacher or chaperone for each group.
2. Please call us one week ahead of your scheduled visit to alert us to any students in your class with special needs, such as hearing or sight deficits or mobility limitations.
3. Please make Nature Center staff aware of any student who is allergic to bee stings (check with your school nurse). We encourage these students to eat lunch inside.
4. Every student should bring a complete change of clothes including shoes for rainy days. We will hike rain or shine with the exception of thunder storms. Students should wear comfortable walking shoes, sneakers or boots. Sandals and high heels are discouraged.
5. Have students wear name tags of any design that you choose. Masking tape works well. Please do not use straight pins to attach them to students. Lost pins may be ingested by and can harm wildlife.
6. Programs are two hours long. If you like, plan additional time for lunch in our picnic area before returning to school. A covered pavilion is also available for rainy day lunches.
7. All Maryland State Parks are trash free. We ask that you remember to carry the student's trash back to your school dumpster. Help us to reduce the yellow jackets by picking up all trash.
8. If you have a question about anything at all please call us at (410) 398-4909.
