In the "Every Tree for Itself" game students are turned into a forest of trees, each one "rooted" to the ground. Here they must compete for their basic needs: sunlight, water and nutrients, in order to survive.

Gathering resources is hard to do when one is held in one spot by roots!
Over the course of several rounds, students learn that changes in the amounts of natural resources have an effect on the health of individual trees and entire forests.

During the hike students use an ID Key to recognize plants by their leaves, seeds, and bark.
