Financial Report: Larry Klevans reported

1. In March 2002 expenses exceeded income by $792. The majority of income items were $4,500 donation from the Cecil County Soil Conservation District, $1,929 from Memberships, $680 from Summer Camp registrations, $516 from United Way of Cecil County, $500 from Lions Club of Rising Sun, $320 from out -of-county schools, and $50 from Special Appeals.

Major expenses were $5,419 for staff, $2,021 for repairs (including 1/3 of the plumbing project), $1,132 for office expenses, $220 for a grant writing contract, and $589 for taxes.

3. Year to date Income (YTD) totals $30251 vs. budget of $27,965, while YTD expenses total $24,510 vs. a budget of $27,965. Thus, our YTD net income stands at $5,701.

Meeting Day: Non attending members need to let Dan know of other meeting days they are available. List was circulated during meeting.

Nature School Report: Holly Hannum reported:

First Aid and CPR training for staff took place on March 18 and 19. In accordance with suggestions made by our instructor we have added a safety shield for administration of CPR and aspirin for strokes to our first aid supplies. She also left us an assortment of slings and braces from her personal cache. First aid supplies are located in the closet behind Pat's desk.

Trail day on March 23 went well. We had about 20 volunteers attend. We loaded debris from the buffer zone into a state truck and DNR disposed of it for us. We mulched the trail across from the Center and across the island. There is still plenty of multiflora rose to be cleared and our bridge on the far side of the island needs work. I hope to have the bridge stabilized by the end of this week.

Dennis has made a contact with Bob Lydum of the public affairs office at Agilent Technologies. They have a community grant available for $2,500. They have a new category, which supports programs, which encourage "natural resource sustainability." Bob came out for a visit and it appears that any of our current programs would meet their criteria for support. Karen has been talking with me about creating an after school outreach which might also be the focus for this grant source. On April 4th, Jerry Newman and I visited the Agilent plant. Jerry will present a bluebird workshop at their site on April 23 for "Take Your Kids To Work Day." He will build houses to put up on their grounds. Bob gave us 32 owl pellet dissection kits for use in Nature Wizard camp. They are also wiring a honeybee display for us.

Summer camp flyers have gone out to all members and to classes, which have visited so far this spring. We are awaiting permission from Dr. Wheeler to distribute flyers to all CCPS children. They are printed and ready to go. As of this morning we have 68 of the 236 slots in summer camp filled. Registrations are pretty evenly distributed so far with nine registered for "Nature Wizards" camp and three in the first week of "Imagination Camp." As a result of Janet's training with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation we received free water test kits to use in Bay Camp. We are looking for someone to talk to one of our camps about homing pigeons. Please let me know if you know someone. We have also received 250 free snacks for Frito Lay for summer camp.

Membership: Bob Carroll no report about membership. Is working on Plant sale for SpringFest - need plant donation. Ag Day sale remainders will be offered for sale.

Buildings and Grounds: Jerry Newman has been working on plumbing. Trench will be dug for outside connections on April 29. Estimate will go up to approximately $4,500 in order to have completely clean pipes.

Community Relations: Doug Hill - May Bulletin will reach people at the end of April. Alex and his company is redigitizing the video in order to bring Dennis' voice out over the music. Will be putting on CD disks also. Took in around $1,000 to cover expenses. Need to set aside a small amount of time during a board meeting to brainstorm how to take the video out to businesses.

Board felt we should send bulletins and newsletters to all people for which we have contact addresses. Should put membership list out in newsletter so that people can see who members are.

Dan Schneckenburger and Dennis met with commissioners. Budget will be tight this year. Feels monthly bulletin is doing the trick as far as getting publicity out. Janet is doing a great job with her contact at Cecil Whig.

Nominating Convention: Dan will be elected president at next meeting, nominating committee asked Mario to become vice president, Nancy moved and Doug seconded that Dan Speakman become a member of the board. Hinda Smith was voted in during last meeting. Laurie Murphy was also voted in.

Nancy moved to adjourn at 7:10 p.m., Barb seconded.

Respectfully submitted,

Barbara Snyder
