BOARD OF DIRECTORS
MONTHLY MEETING: October 10, 2000
MINUTES
Members Present: Bob Carroll, Dan Schneckenburger, Barbara Snyder, JoAnn Dawson, William Lucas, Jerry Newman, Holly Hannum, Suzan Doordan, Douglas Hill, Dennis Clower, Larry Klevans, Mario Gangemi, Jim Campbell.
The meeting of the Board of Directors, Fair Hill Environmental Foundation, Inc. was held at the Fair Hill Nature and Environmental Center, Fair Hill, Maryland, October 11, 2000 at 6:00 p.m.
President Dennis Clower called the meeting to order at 6:25 p.m.
Minutes: There was no review of the previous minutes.
Action Items:
1. Jerry Newman reported about the Building & Grounds. Jerry congratulated all that participated in helping with painting inside. He is continuing to paint as he has time. Front entry is completed, as is side room, stairwell and member's room upstairs. JoAnn is looking for rugs at auctions. Suzan is looking for donations. Jerry has also set up bird feeders. Peter Lucas (Bill's brother) is to help paint. After discussion about needing to remove a large exhaust fan that is not required anymore, Mario made a motion, Suzan seconded and all were in favor of removing it and boarding over the hole in the wall. Mario agreed to help Jerry lift it out.
2. The Personnel committee reported that Angie, Bob, Dan and Gerry H. have had two meetings since the last board meeting to work on job descriptions and structure. Karin Aspinwall was very helpful giving historical data, how things ran. A questionnaire for staff members has been prepared and the committee has gained a good perspective about the whole program. Hope to be finished by November board meeting.
3. Barbara Snyder reported for the Program Committee. (see below)

Larry noted that Board of Education is not paying for higher grades to come to Nature Center. We did get grant from United Way and they requested we observe a blackout period from 9/15 through 12/2. Larry suggested we work on budget during November meeting.
5. Fundraising Committee -Linda Walls submitted grant proposals. Gerry Hendricks asked Bob Carroll to talk about a call for RFP's that require a lot of reporting. Bill Lucas volunteered to submit and make reports.
6. Community Relations -Doug Hill's son Alex is working on video. Will need $700 for editing lab time. Doug will write to local businesses about sponsorship. Is constructing letter about film being made, businesses could view film before putting their name on as sponsor.
7. Education -Holly stated 2 of the 5 new programs have started; the children really like the program. Need to send photo to newspaper regarding Bar Association grant. Holly also stated that she, Jerry Newman and Jim Campbell would be attending the Waterfowl Festival weekend of 11/10. School classes are scheduled through 6/8/2001. Are filling Wednesdays with home schoolers. Need flyers.
8. Larry stated that he would review Internet sites for give-aways.
9. We need brochures printed before Waterfowl Festival -also need for Fair Hill International. Print 2000 send 500 to Tourism (Sandy Turner). Bob Carroll's wife to work on new design -Mario will help. Karen has video taped some of the new programs.
10. Susan reported on Fox Trot ball -decision was to go ahead if 100 people responded to invitation by Monday the 16th. Cost per person is around $29.00 -need to have enough people attend so as not to lose money. Various assignments were made for work crews. Carriage rides were discussed.
President Dennis Clower adjourned the meeting at 8:15 p.m.
