Second Annual March For Parks Sunday, April 19 Wanted: Walkers, Horseback Riders, and Mountain Bikers The Fair Hill Nature Center is busy planning its third annual March for Parks event scheduled for Sunday, April 19, from 1 to 4 p.m. The March will begin at 1 p.m. with participant registration at Fair Hill Nature Center, followed by an easy 4.5 mile walk through the FHNRMA (with an alternative shorter loop available.) Last year's event was very successful, with over 260 people coming to help raise $5,000. This year the Fair Hill Nature Center hopes to raise $15,000. One hundres percent of the proceeds will be targeted for Nature Center and Park projects. But we need your help to make this event suceed! Here's what you can do: Become a marcher! Call the Nature Center to register and we'll send you a pledge form. There is a minimum of $10.00 in pledges (or a registration fee of $10.00 if you choose not to collect pledges) to enter the walk . If you raise $20.00 or more, you will receive a commemorative water bottle. If you raise $30.00 or more, you will receive a t-shirt.** All marchers get a Fair Hill Nature Center button. This year the March For Parks Committee is also planning to give away special prizes for top fund-raisers in several categories. You will receive more information on prize incentives when you register. Make the event a Family Day. Designate one person in the family to be the marcher with pledges of $10.00 or more. Other family members may accompany the marcher for a registration fee of $2.00 per person (kids under age 7 free). Horse riders and mountain bikers are welcome to march too! Separate trails and registration areas will be set up for those who wish to participate on horseback or ride mountain bikes. When you call to register, specify that you will be on a horse or bike and we'll send you the appropriate information. Collect donations from supporters such as friends, relatives, co-workers, neighbors, or others interested in helping the Nature Center and FH Natural Resources Management Area. Collect the donations at the same time supporters sign up. Checks should be made payable to March for Parks. Bring all contributions to the march on April 19 and report in at the registration table. Become a Team Captain. If you think you can recruit 10 marchers who will each be able to collect at least $10.00 in pledges, become a team captain! Team captains receive a free t-shirt. Companies, youth groups, neighborhoods, and schools are all great places to recruit teams members. March for Parks is America's only national walk event for parks. Organized by the National Parks and Conservation Association (NPCA), March for Parks raises awareness and funds for America's national, state, and local parks. All money raised stays at the local level for park projects identified by each organizing group. This year March for Parks is supported nationally by First USA, whose generous contribution makes it possible for NPCA to distribute free organizing materials and posters to all its organizing groups around the country. Local corporate sponsors of the Fair Hill March for Parks are Cecil County Chamber of Commerce, County Bank, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Maryland Materials, People's Bank, and W.L. Gore and Associates. Hot dogs, beverages, and baked goods will be available for hungry marchers, and our gift store will be open. Show your support for the Nature Center and Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area. March with us in April!! **The first 200 marchers with $30.00 in pledges will receiveT-shirts on April 20. You may call the Nature Center as soon as you get $30.00 in pledges to reserve a shirt. In the event that inventory of March for Parks merchandise is depleted, rain checks or a different prize of equal value may be substituted. |
