Nature Center programs are great for nature lovers, outdoor enthusiasts of all ages, families and organizations such as Scout groups. Family memberships and organization memberships are available for $30. Scout groups and other youth organizations over 12 members are $50.

Washington's Birthday Tea

Join Gerry Carpenter of “4:00 Tea”. Ladies of all ages, and lads too, will enjoy learning about the importance of tea to colonial Americans while enjoying an afternoon tea, complete with a spread of colonial favorites, at the Nature Center.
Members $10.00, nonmembers $15.00. teacup

Marvelous Maples

Saturday, March 4, 1:00 p.m.
 

Although one normally thinks about maple sugaring in New England, it is posible to collect sap from maples anywhere is Spring where temperatures are still freezing at night but warm up considerably during the day. It takes forty gallons of sap to boil up one gallon of syrup, so the staff naturalists have been hard at work collecting sap for their pancake party and maple sugaring demonstration on tapping sap and boiling syrup.

Bluebirds!

After the pancakes are polished off, Rising Sun bluebird expert Jerry newman will discuss ways to entice bluebirds to the backyard and help them raise their young successfully. Patrons will then have the fun of making their own nesting boxes. A limited number of preassembled boxes are also available.

Each program is free to members;$5.00 nonmembers - $8.00 for both programs. Each nesting box kit is $8.00 for all, or $12.00 if bouhgt preassembled. Nonmenber fee for children is $3.00. Memberships are available at the door.

Trails Day

Saturday, March 18, 9:00 a.m – 1:00 p.m.

Trail day We will be cleaning the trails to make them more passable for the children that will be returning in the Spring. Anyone interested in helping please reply, either by phone or email. We will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end around 1:00 p.m. A lunch of hot dogs and delicioous baked goods will be served at 12:00. Please bring any rakes, gloves wheelbarrows that you may need. Be sure to label everything you own. This is a great oportunity for youth groups to earn service hours.

Frog Frenzy

Friday, April 7, 6:30 p.m.

Hike to hear the froggy chorus at dusk. Learn how to identify Fair Hill’s amphibian population. Bonfire to follow hike. Age 3 and up. Members only, but memberships will be available at the program.

S.W.A.T. Road Cleanup

Saturday, April 22, 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.

Come celebrate Earth Day as we pick up trash along our “adopted” stretch of highway. We’re only out there a couple of hours but what a difference it makes. Meet at Wesley’s Restaurant parking lot on Rt. 273. All materials provided by the Nature Center. Must be 12 years or older.

Children’s games and crafts, pony rides, moon bounce, live music, craft show, nature hikes and more. Our annual fundraiser – no reservations required!

Nature Craft Workshop
